How to record audio online
Straight from your mic to a downloadable file — free and private.
- 1
Allow your microphone
Press Record and your browser asks for microphone access. Nothing is captured until you allow it, and the audio never leaves your device.
- 2
Record your take
Speak your voiceover, voice note or message. A live timer and a red REC dot show you’re recording. Press Stop when you’re done.
- 3
Play it back
Listen to your take right away in the built-in player. Not happy with it? Hit “Record again” and re-do it — no limits.
- 4
Download MP3, WAV or the original
Save the original browser recording, or export a ready-to-use MP3 or WAV. The conversion runs in your browser too.
Voice Recorder — FAQ
Is this voice recorder really free?
Yes — record as much as you like, free, with no signup and no watermark. An optional Pro membership (NZ$9/mo) adds a saved history of your takes, but every recording and download here is fully free on its own.
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The recorder uses your browser’s built-in MediaRecorder and Web Audio, so your audio is captured and converted entirely on your device. There is no server and nothing is stored online — close the tab and it’s gone.
Can I record a voiceover for a video or podcast?
Absolutely — it’s built for exactly that. Record your narration, export a WAV for the cleanest quality or an MP3 for a smaller file, then drop it into your editor. Great for NZ small-business explainers, property walk-through voiceovers and podcast intros.
What’s the difference between MP3 and WAV?
WAV is uncompressed, so it’s the highest quality and best if you’ll edit the audio afterwards. MP3 is compressed to a much smaller file that’s perfect for sharing or uploading. You can download either, or keep the original browser recording.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes — it runs in any modern mobile browser like Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android. Tap Record, allow the microphone, and record on the go. No app to install.
Why won’t it record — it says the microphone is blocked?
Your browser is blocking microphone access. Tap the small camera/mic icon in the address bar, choose “Allow”, then press Record again. On a phone, check that the browser has microphone permission in your device settings.
