Why a fixed, productised service beats bespoke at this size
Custom work carries a fixed overhead that has nothing to do with the size of the client. Scoping calls, bespoke reporting formats and one-off approval processes cost roughly the same whether the budget is a thousand dollars a month or twenty. For a business turning over under a million a year, that overhead is the majority of what a traditional agency charges, and none of it reaches your audience.
Running many small businesses on one monthly rhythm removes most of it. The calendar lands on the same date, the approval step is the same step, and the reporting is the same format — so the money buys content and attention rather than coordination. The trade-off is real and worth stating plainly: you get a proven shape rather than a bespoke one.
That trade-off is a bad deal above a certain size, which is why this is not the right service for everyone. If your business has an in-house marketer or a complicated multi-brand structure, the productised version will start to chafe, and you should move to full management instead.
What a small monthly ad budget can and cannot do
A few hundred dollars a month is enough to put your best-performing organic content in front of more of the right local people. It is not enough to run a proper testing programme, and any arrangement that promises both is quietly doing neither. Being clear about that boundary up front is the difference between a budget that compounds and one that evaporates.
So the money goes behind what has already proven it works with a real audience, rather than funding guesses. Something that earned genuine engagement unpaid is the safest thing to amplify, and at this budget safety matters more than upside — there is no room to absorb a run of failed experiments.
Expectations should be set in months rather than weeks. A small budget accumulates evidence slowly, and the temptation to change direction before the evidence arrives is the most common way small-business social spending is wasted.
Frequently asked
- How is this so much cheaper than agencies?
- Because it is productised. I bundle 10+ small businesses into the same monthly rhythm so I can keep the price down without cutting quality.
- Do I need to provide photos?
- No — but if you do, results are better. I can also shoot a Auckland half-day quarterly.
- What if I want more?
- You upgrade to full social media management ($997/mo) anytime.
