Is this archive extractor really free?
Yes — open and extract as many ZIP, RAR, 7z and TAR files as you like, free, with no signup and no watermark. An optional Pro membership (NZ$9/mo) adds batch extraction across many archives at once, but the free tool is fully usable on its own.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The extractor runs entirely in your browser using a WebAssembly build of libarchive, so your archive and everything inside it never leave your device. There’s no server and nothing is stored online.
Which formats can it open?
ZIP, RAR (v4 and v5), 7z, TAR and gzip-compressed files (.gz, .tgz), plus other formats libarchive supports such as bzip2 and xz. If your file has an unusual extension, try it anyway — the engine detects the real format from the file’s contents.
Can I open a .rar that a client emailed me without installing WinRAR?
Yes — that’s exactly what this is for. Plenty of Kiwi businesses get sent .rar or .7z files and can’t install software on a work laptop. Just drop the file in here and download the contents straight away, no admin rights needed.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern mobile or desktop browser, so you can open a .zip or .rar someone texted you and pull out a single file right from your phone — no app to install.
What if the archive is password-protected or corrupt?
You’ll get a friendly message instead of a silent failure. Encrypted (password-protected) archives can’t be opened here, and damaged files will report that they couldn’t be read — try re-downloading the original if that happens.
