How to compress a video

Drop a clip, pick a quality, and download a smaller MP4 — all in your browser.

  1. 1

    Drop in your video

Drag in or browse for an MP4, WebM or MOV. It stays on your device — nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2

    Choose a quality level

Pick Smaller file for the lightest result, Balanced for everyday use, or Higher quality to keep it sharp.

  3. 3

    Compress the video

Hit Compress video. The first run loads a one-time ~32MB engine, then a progress bar shows the work happening right in your browser.

  4. 4

    Check the savings

See the before and after size and the percentage saved, with a preview of the compressed clip.

  5. 5

    Download your MP4

Download the smaller MP4, ready to email, upload or post — no watermark, no signup.

Compress Video — FAQ

Is this video compressor really free?

Yes — compress as many videos as you like, free, with no signup and no watermark. An optional Pro membership (NZ$9/mo) adds batch compression and saved presets, but the free tool is fully usable on its own.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Your video is read and re-encoded entirely in your browser using a local video engine. The file never leaves your device — there is no server and nothing is stored online.

Which video formats can I compress?

Anything your browser can play — typically MP4, WebM and MOV. The result is always an MP4 (H.264), which plays just about everywhere and emails or uploads easily.

How much smaller will my video get?

It depends on the clip and the quality you pick. “Smaller file” saves the most, “Balanced” is a good middle ground, and “Higher quality” keeps it sharp with a more modest reduction. If a clip is already heavily compressed there may be little left to save.

Can I use it to shrink a property walkthrough?

Absolutely — it is great for trimming down an Auckland listing walkthrough, an open-home clip or a product demo so it is small enough to email a vendor or upload to a portal. No app to install.

Does it work on my phone, and why is a big video slow?

It runs in any modern mobile or desktop browser. Because everything happens on your device with a single-thread engine, large or long videos can take a while — especially on a phone. For the quickest result, compress a shorter clip.
